The breakaway region in northern Somalia, known as Somaliland has to worry about the withdrawal of prominent politicians hailing from Sool region, according to sources in Hargeisa who spoke to RBC Radio.
Earlier this week, Puntland which is a biggest rival and neighboring administration of Somaliland welcome Ahmed Abdi Xaabsade who served as minister and presidential adviser in Somaliland. He reached Garowe after he left Hargeisa and announced that he officially joined Puntland.
Initial reports also confirm that the current health minister of Somaliland, Suleyman Ahmed Isse [better known as Xaglatosiye] who is currently in Jigjiga is deciding to withdraw from Somaliland. Both Xaglatosiye and Xaabsade were two prominent figures within Somaliland ministers from Sool region.
Insiders believe that the withdrawal of these politician will consequently affect Somaliland’s claim to control Sool and Sanaag regions, which are one of the five regions that Somaliland consists of in accordance to former Somalia’s 18 regions republic.
Puntland which is now a Federal Member State alleged Somaliland to be arming Al Shabab fighters in Galgala area and taking advantage of the conflict in Sool and Sanaag regions to continue to seize the two regions but Somaliland previously rebuffed such allegations.
In his recent public address, Puntland leader Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas vowed that he will not hesitate to return back Sool and Sanaag regions back to Puntland calling Somaliland forces to pull out.
Meanwhile, the people in the area are on the other hand worried such political tensions could trigger armed conflict and could affect the already suffering community in the Sool Plataea.
