Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday (April 23rd) named his first four cabinet positions, pledging to soon announce the nominees for the remaining 14 ministerial posts.

Kenyatta said the nominees were chosen for their fulfilment of constitutional requirements, their collective reflection of Kenya's diversity and their capabilities.
"We want to put in place a government that has the capacity to deliver on the pledges made by the Jubilee coalition, transform the country and improve the lives of Kenyans," he said, according to Kenya's Capital FM.
Amina Mohamed was pulled from her positions at the United Nations, where she served as assistant secretary general and deputy director general for the United Nations Environment Programme, to be the nominee for secretary of foreign affairs. She previously served as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs under President Mwai Kibaki.
Governance expert Fred Okengo Matiang'i was nominated to be secretary of information, communication and technology. Henry Rotich was nominated to be secretary for the National Treasury, where he serves as head of macro-economics. Managing Director of NIC Bank Group James Wainaina was nominated to be secretary of health.
The parliamentary committee on appointments will hold seven days of public hearings to give citizens a chance to voice their opinions on Kenyatta's cabinet appointees. The 28 members of the committee were selected on Tuesday.
